Yijie Liu
Liu Yijie is a graduate of the Master of Arts Program in the Humanities at the University of Chicago, focusing on Theater and Performance Studies. Her thesis, NÜ: A play, explores the generational trauma and the formation of female gender identity in the mother-daughter relationship, through their shared female experiences that are individually formed and collectively repeated and reconstructed. The play focuses on power dynamics and identity performativity in domestic pedagogical practices and discusses the possibility (or impossibility) of a female community as a utopian enclave in the patriarchal structure. Her research interests and creative practices also involve using autobiographical writing—exploiting real experiences as an identifiable and embodied persona—as a tool for female theater writing.
